Filming during a pandemic. On location with Code 404 drama production.

Filming during a pandemic was probably not on anyone’s ‘to do’ list this time last year! There was a brief moment when it was looking unlikely that filming could resume for the majority of productions this summer. So many rules, guidelines and safety measure to put in place. How can you make filming safe for such large production teams, especially on a hit comedy drama like Code 404?

A really interesting piece in Broadcast this week explains the lengths teams have to go to to keep the show running. Filming during a pandemic is possible, if a little tricky at times!

“One of the most important Covid measures introduced for Code 404 was splitting cast and crew into categories: category 1 for people who could work remotely or didn’t need to be on the floor/set to do their job (such as production office, accounts and post-production); category 2 for those on the floor needed to keep the shoot going (sound, electricians, locations and so on), all of whom had to wear PPE; and category 3 for the cast and those who interacted with them (such as directors, producers, DoPs and make-up).

This category needed to be tested for Covid throughout the shoot.”

Our Role

We’re really excited to be back on board completing all of the post production scripts and delivery paperwork for the new series. We worked on Series 1 and the original pilot and Kudos are an absolute joy of a client. Being part of Category 1, we’re lucky to be based at home in Somerset, so keeping our distance and not adding to the numbers on location! Filming during a pandemic is hard enough without extra crew on set.

Our role is very small in comparison. A large team of cast and crew that are needed to put this production together. But we feel as integral as anyone else. We all have a role and it’s a pleasure to be part of something so exciting.

If you haven’t seen Series 1 of Code 404 you must give it a watch. So funny, well written and quick witted. Just what we need at the moment I think you’ll agree! Fingers crossed for a safe end to filming!
