Ever wondered what it would be like to have a job that meant you COULD have that elusive work-life balance?

We profiled one of our longest running transcribers to find out why they do what they do and why it works for them.

Meet Jo!
Jo has been working with us for a few years now and is a key member of our transcribing team. She has been able to manage her role around her existing family commitments and is able to pretty much work full time over a 7 day period!

“I can’t tell you the number of jobs I have been unable to apply for in the past because I couldn’t work around school pick up times.”

If you are able to manage your time effectively and are self-motivated there is no reason you cannot make it work for you and the life you want. It’s hard work at times but worth it in the end!

“Flexible working just fits. I can do the school run, stop for coffee and a chat or break to make tea and then work in the evening if I want to. Its what every working mum needs… “

BiTC Media are strong supporters of flexible working and believe we get the best out of our team if they have the flexibility to also live their lives AND earn money!

BUT whilst there is a lot of flexibility in this type of role, there is also a lot of hard work that goes it with. Transcribing is not ‘just typing’ as many think it is. Transcribing what someone has said, word for word is actually a very difficult skill to master. People don’t speak in a grammatically correct way, not even when scripted on TV! Training your ears and being able to transcribe what you have heard and not what you think you’ve heard takes a long time to master.

On top of expert transcription skills you have to be self motivated and happy working alone at home / remotely. It’s not for everyone and that alone can be a big adjustment for some especially if they have been used to working in a busy office surrounded by people.

Some of our team enjoy working alone at home and others like the buzz around them and opt for creative coworking hubs that are popping up all over the place now. They are great spaces and give you a ‘workplace’ usually with good coffee and pastries! What more could you need!

We spend time training each member of our team to ensure they are working to their full potential and that they are happy with the work they are doing. If you are interested in finding out more about working with BiTC Media – get in touch. We’d love to hear from you. More info can be found here.
