Marcella Series 2 will air on ITV in February 2018 and on Netflix in March.

Marcella is a new multi-stranded crime drama from international superstar screenwriter and novelist Hans Rosenfeldt (The Bridge).

Set in contemporary London and starring Anna Friel, Marcella centres on the psychological struggles of a Metropolitan police officer at a crisis point in her personal life, driven by rejection and intuition. Unnerved by what she discovers deep within her, Marcella harbours a dangerous suspicion that far from solving crimes, she might be right at their heart.

The new 8 part drama series also stars Downton Abbey’s Laura Carmichael, Sinead Cusack (‘Jekyll & Hyde’, ’37 Days’), Nicholas Pinnock (‘Fortitude’, ‘Captain America’), Ian Puleston-Davies (‘Coronation Street’, ‘Waterloo Road’), Nina Sosanya (‘W1A’, ‘Last Tango in Halifax’), Ray Panthaki (‘EastEnders’, ‘The Wrong Mans’), Patrick Baladi (‘The Office’, ‘Mistresses’), and Harry Lloyd (‘Game of Thrones’, ‘The Theory of Everything’).

Co-created by Hans Rosenfeldt and Nicola Larder (Sky’s development executive on ‘The Tunnel’, ‘Lawless’, ‘Psychopath Next Door’), Marcella is Hans Rosenfeldt’s first exclusively created drama for the UK audience following the global success of The Bridge, a Swedish/ Danish co-production which achieved critical acclaim when it began broadcasting in the UK in 2014. Set in contemporary London with a British Metropolitan Police Officer at its heart, Marcella is Scandinavian noir on the streets of Britain.

Told with Rosenfeldt’s unflinchingly clear Nordic style, full of hooks and action, Marcella’s 8 x 60’ episodes leads the audience through a narrative maze until the final moments of the drama.  Marcella delves into the psychology of a single female detective working solo on a serial murder case with many potential suspects and victims.

Marcella is executive produced by Rosenfeldt, Nicola Larder and Buccaneer Media’s founder Tony Wood who created the joint venture production company in partnership with global entertainment company, Cineflix Media.  The directors are Charles Martin (‘New Worlds’, ‘Skins’, ‘The Returned’), Jonathan Teplitzky (‘Indian Summers’, ‘Broadchurch’, ‘Rake’) and Henrik Georgsson (‘The Bridge’, Wallander’) Andrew Woodhead (‘Fortitude’, ‘Spooks’, The Fixer’) is producer.
